The United States and Ukraine are discussing the possibility of offering Russia a limited “energy truce” that would involve a cessation of attacks on energy infrastructure on both sides.

This is reported by the Financial Times, citing informed sources.

According to the publication, Moscow would have to stop attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure in exchange for Kyiv’s attacks on Russian oil refineries and tankers of the so-called “shadow fleet.”

A trilateral meeting involving the US, Ukraine and Russia is planned to be held in Abu Dhabi at the end of this week. The talks have not yet been confirmed – the Ukrainian and American sides are awaiting a response from Russia.

Sources note that discussions on an “energy truce” are at a preliminary stage.

At the same time, FT interlocutors believe that Vladimir Putin is unlikely to agree to such a proposal, as the Kremlin views pressure on Ukrainian energy infrastructure as a key lever of influence.

A senior Ukrainian official also said Kyiv was hesitant about a ceasefire, saying its long-range drone program had successfully struck Russian oil and gas facilities and, more recently, oil tankers in the Black Sea and Mediterranean that fuel the Kremlin’s military machine.

As previously reported, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the full Ukrainian delegation will travel to the United Arab Emirates for a trilateral meeting with the United States and Russia.

Let us remind you thatthe first trilateral meeting of Ukraine, the United States, and Russia will take place in the United Arab Emirates .
