The Trump administration this week agreed to transfer 3,350 Extended Range Attack Munition (ERAM) air-to-air missiles to Ukraine. Deliveries are expected to begin in about a month and a half.
The Wall Street Journal reported the price, citing American officials.
According to the publication, the weapons package in question is worth $850 million, most of which is financed by European partners. It also includes other systems, but the transfer has been postponed until after Donald Trump’s meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
As WSJ sources specify, the use of ERAM may require separate permission from the Pentagon. At the same time, the US State Department declined to comment on the situation.
According to Defense Express, ERAM combines the characteristics of a guided bomb and a compact cruise missile. Its range reaches about 463 km and its speed is more than 760 km/h.
Although Washington has not officially announced its intention to provide Ukraine with additional missiles, European purchases of American weapons could significantly strengthen Ukraine’s defenses. Among other things, this includes air defense systems and high-precision GMLRS missiles, the WSJ notes.
