US Army Secretary no longer participating in Ukraine talks
US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll has been removed from participating in peace talks to resolve Russia’s war against Ukraine.
This is reported by The Telegraph.
According to the publication, the decision was made by US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. He believes that Driscoll exceeded his authority during the negotiation process.
A source the journalists spoke to described the situation as follows: “He was being overly active, and they slapped him on the hands.”
The Telegraph notes that Driscoll’s influence in the administration of US President Donald Trump has been growing rapidly. European diplomats, for their part, have praised his tough negotiating style.
According to the publication, Driscoll planned to come to Kyiv to continue the talks two weeks ago, but the visit was canceled. He was also supposed to fly to Paris and join the talks between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and French President Emmanuel Macron on December 1, but the trip was also canceled.
“This surprised our delegation,” said an unnamed Ukrainian official, adding that Driscoll was likely not allowed to come.
The publication states that Ukraine and the European Union view Driscoll’s absence as part of a broader struggle for control of the peace talks in the United States.
