The House Appropriations Committee has approved a draft defense budget for fiscal year 2026 in the amount of $832 billion, which is in line with the 2025 level.

This was reported by BreakingDefence.

The new draft does not provide for an additional $300 million in aid to Ukraine, although a corresponding amendment was proposed. It was rejected due to resistance from some Republicans.

Key provisions of the defense budget:

        • $832 billion – total expenditure (at the 2025 level).

        • $13 billion – for missile defense and space programs (in particular, the Israeli Golden Dome shield).

        • $8.5 billion – for the purchase of 69 F-35 fighters.

        • $36.9 billion for shipbuilding, including two Arleigh Burke-class destroyers that were not provided for by the Pentagon.

An amendment to provide an additional $300 million for Ukraine failed to gain committee support. The committee’s chairman, Republican Tom Cole, warned that including the amount could derail a vote on the entire defense budget due to opposition from some conservative Republicans.

Tom Cole: “I supported and support Ukraine. But I don’t want to risk the passage of the entire defense bill. Politics is also a matter of practicality.”

He also noted that Democrats will not support the bill in its current form due to the conservative nature of many of its provisions.

Let us recall that on June 4 , the 28th meeting of the Contact Group on the Defense of Ukraine in the Ramstein format took place in Brussels , which brought record amounts of military aid to Ukraine and became another confirmation of the unwavering support of its international partners.
