The United States Congress is ready to support new legislative initiatives on sanctions and duties against Russia.

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham reported this on the social network X (formerly Twitter).

According to him, the efforts of President Donald Trump and his team to stop the bloodshed in Ukraine are already yielding real results. Graham noted that Congress, with broad bipartisan support, is ready to pass the relevant legislation. The bill to tighten sanctions and impose tariffs on Russia already has 85 co-sponsors in the Senate.

The senator also praised President Trump’s decision to impose an additional 25 percent tariff on Indian imports for their purchase of Russian oil. He said it was a turning point in U.S. policy toward countries that directly or indirectly finance the Kremlin’s war machine. Graham stressed that countries that buy oil from Russia or through intermediaries like India should pay a high price for doing so.

He thanked European allies for helping Ukraine, but noted that it could not be ignored that many of them continued to buy energy supplies from Russia, even indirectly.

Recall that the administration of US President Donald Trump is considering a new package of sanctions against Russia’s “shadow fleet” of oil tankers if the Kremlin does not agree to a ceasefire in Ukraine by August 8.

As reported, the Donald Trump administration has warned the Kremlin: if Vladimir Putin does not agree to a ceasefire in Ukraine by August 8, the United States will impose a new package of sanctions . The list includes a strike on the shadow fleet, customs restrictions, secondary sanctions and other levers of economic pressure. Washington hopes for negotiations, but is preparing for decisive action.
