The Trump administration has not extended a temporary waiver of sanctions on Russian oil, effectively ending a brief period of easing sanctions on Russian oil exports.

This is reported by Bloomberg .

The article notes that the exemption previously allowed operations with some of the Russian oil that had already been loaded onto tankers. After its expiration, the restrictions came back into effect, reinstating the previous sanctions regime.

The Trump administration first implemented the exemption in March and later extended it in April, but the decision has not been extended again.

“The exemptions applied only to some of the Russian oil that had already been loaded onto tankers,” Bloomberg notes.

Previously, temporary relaxations have sparked discussions among US allies, particularly in Europe, who are pushing for tougher sanctions pressure on Russia to limit its revenues from energy exports.

Analysts also note that during the period of the exemptions, some US partners, particularly in Asia, called for their extension due to the situation on the global energy market. The article notes that the decision on further policy on sanctions may change depending on fluctuations in oil prices and the geopolitical situation on the energy market.

As is known, the US Treasury Department has issued General License No. 134B, which allows for operations related to the sale, delivery, and unloading of Russian oil and petroleum products loaded onto vessels as of April 17, 2026.

It was previously reported that Russian oil exports from the port of Novorossiysk on the Black Sea had sharply decreased , causing the Kremlin to lose some of its revenue to finance the war.

Recall that Russia lost almost half of its oil revenues this year . Russian companies paid 494.9 billion rubles. In particular, total oil revenues fell by 43% and amounted to 617 billion rubles.
