US “hellish sanctions” against Russia: India warns of possible deterioration of relations with Washington
India said on Thursday, September 17, that it would continue to buy energy from various suppliers despite the passage of a new sanctions and tariffs bill by the US House of Representatives. New Delhi stressed the need to ensure the country’s energy security.

It is known that the Indian Ministry of External Affairs made a corresponding statement after the vote in the US House of Representatives on a document that provides for increased economic pressure on Russia due to its war against Ukraine.
The bill, which allows US President Donald Trump to impose tariffs of up to 100% on countries, including India, to reduce their dependence on Russian oil and gas, and also expands sanctions on Iran, is now expected to go before Trump for his signature.
The Indian Foreign Ministry said it had taken note of the adoption of the document. It noted that it had discussed the issue with its American partners in recent months and warned of the possible consequences for bilateral relations and the global energy market.
New Delhi also emphasized its readiness to take necessary measures to protect its trade and economic interests.
The Indian government added that it would work with trade and industry organizations on issues related to the implications of the law.
India is the world’s third-largest oil importer and one of the largest buyers of Russian oil. Its purchases are believed to provide Moscow with additional budget revenue to wage its war against Ukraine.
At the same time, New Delhi has repeatedly rejected calls to reduce purchases of Russian oil, emphasizing that the country’s economy and population need stable, affordable, and reliable energy supplies.
