US Independence Day parade canceled due to extreme heat

Washington, D.C., has canceled its July 4th Independence Day parade due to extreme heat. The decision was made due to dangerous weather conditions and the need to ensure the safety of participants and spectators.

The National Weather Service has issued an extreme heat warning for the District of Columbia, with heat index readings expected to reach 110 to 115 degrees Fahrenheit (43.3 to 46.1 degrees Celsius).
The parade was scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Eastern Time on the day of the 250th anniversary of US independence.
“This decision was made after a comprehensive and careful consideration of the safety of our participants, spectators and staff, which is a top priority,” the event organizers said in a statement.
According to the agency, an extreme heat wave has swept across much of the United States. In many American cities, temperatures have exceeded 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
According to the US Weather Prediction Center, on Friday more than 197 million people in the territory from Kansas to Maine were in the area of extreme heat warnings or recommendations for safe behavior in such weather conditions.
