US intelligence agencies have warned the Trump administration that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu could take steps that would jeopardize a long-term peace deal with Iran. The intelligence agencies believe that the Israeli leadership intends to continue its military campaign in Lebanon, which contradicts the terms of the agreement.

This is reported by The Washington Post .

According to US intelligence, Israel intends to continue military operations against the Hezbollah group in Lebanon. This development, according to US officials, contradicts one of the key provisions of the previous peace agreement between the US and Iran, which provides for a cessation of hostilities in Lebanon.

The intelligence assessment comes amid rising tensions between the Netanyahu government and the Trump administration, with White House officials publicly urging Israel to refrain from actions that could derail Washington’s diplomatic efforts.

According to a US intelligence report, Netanyahu’s political future ahead of the parliamentary elections is linked to demonstrating his willingness not to withdraw Israeli troops from Lebanon and to continue the fight against Hezbollah.

The document also states that the Israeli leadership is dissatisfied with the terms of the peace agreement, as it believes that it limits the country’s ability to put pressure on Iran and counter Hezbollah.

At the same time, representatives of the US administration emphasize that the agreements do not deprive Israel of the right to respond to Hezbollah attacks, but consider the completion of the negotiation process a priority.

An Israeli government spokesman, commenting on the US intelligence assessment, said: “Israel’s military activity in Lebanon has the sole purpose of protecting Israeli citizens from continuous attacks by Hezbollah,” an Israeli government spokesman said.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also reaffirmed his intention to maintain an Israeli military presence in Lebanon. “We will remain in the security buffer zone in Lebanon for as long as necessary,” Netanyahu said.

At the same time, US Vice President J.D. Vance urged the Israeli leadership not to aggravate relations with Washington. “Donald Trump is the only head of state in the world who currently sympathizes with Israel. If I were a member of the Israeli government, I would not attack the only powerful ally I have left,” Vance said.

The day before, Iran restricted the passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz , despite signing an agreement with the United States. At the same time, the United States, according to journalists, gave Iran assurances that Israel would not intensify attacks in Lebanon.

Earlier, “Pryamy” reported that the United States and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding , which is intended to become the basis for further negotiations between the countries. The document outlines key principles of cooperation, including on issues of the nuclear program, sanctions, and security in the region.

US President Donald Trump also announced that a peace agreement had been reached between the United States and Iran. According to him, the agreement includes the opening of the Strait of Hormuz and the lifting of the US Navy’s naval blockade.
