The United States may impose sanctions against Russia and its energy buyers in less than 50 days.
US President Donald Trump stated this while speaking to reporters in front of the White House.
Trump did not rule out the introduction of secondary sanctions against Russia earlier than 50 days before the expiration of the US ultimatum. This will happen in the absence of progress in resolving the Russia-Ukraine war.
When asked by journalists whether the United States was closer to a decision to impose restrictions on Russia, Trump answered in the affirmative.
“We’re looking at the whole situation. We’ll probably have to impose secondary sanctions,” Trump said.
According to him, the US may impose sanctions against Russia before the ultimatum to implement a ceasefire within 50 days expires.
However, Trump did not answer the question of whether he had a meeting planned with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin in the near future.
