US may sell Patriot systems to Ukraine: details
Washington is considering the possibility of transferring Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems from US Army warehouses to Ukraine.
This was stated by the United States Permanent Representative to NATO, Matthew Whitaker, quoted by The Guardian.
Whitaker said there is “an ongoing conversation” about whether the United States would be willing to sell existing air defense systems. It is part of a broader strategy being promoted by President Donald Trump. The plan involves European countries purchasing weapons for Ukraine to speed up its delivery.
“We will never put the United States at a strategic disadvantage and ensure that everything necessary is available. At the same time, I think we all recognize the urgent need that Ukraine now needs on the battlefield and to protect its cities,” Whitaker noted.
He also added that the exact timing of decisions is not yet known.
As a reminder, the US Department of Defense has notified Switzerland ofa delay in the delivery of Patriot air defense systems, as they will be sent to Ukraine.
As reported, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said thatUkraine will receive Patriot in the coming weeks. The transfer is currently being coordinated at the level of the defense ministries.
In addition, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is considering joining Germany in purchasing American weapons for transfer to Ukraine . Such a move should strengthen the defense capabilities of the country, which is fighting against Russian aggression.
