US military base to be built in Gaza Strip
The administration of US President Donald Trump is considering building a large military base in the Gaza Strip. The facility is planned to house up to 5,000 people.
This is reported by The Guardian, citing documents from the Peace Council.
The base is planned to cover more than 350 acres and will be the operational center for the International Stabilization Force (ISF), a multinational force to operate in the enclave. The ISF will operate under the auspices of a newly created Peace Council headed by Donald Trump. Jared Kushner will provide some of the leadership.
The project involves the phased construction of a 1,400-by-1,100-meter outpost with 26 armored observation towers, a shooting range, and a warehouse for military equipment. The territory is planned to be surrounded by barbed wire and equipped with a network of bunkers with ventilation systems.
Construction is set to begin on an arid plain in southern Gaza. Sources say international construction companies have already been shown a potential site. However, it remains unclear who owns the land. Much of southern Gaza is currently under Israeli control.
The documents also require immediate halting of work if human remains or cultural artifacts are discovered. The Gaza Civil Defense Agency estimates that the bodies of about 10,000 Palestinians may remain under the rubble.
A Trump administration representative declined to comment on the details of the construction contract, emphasizing that American troops will not be present in the area.
The UN Security Council has authorized the Peace Council to establish a temporary ISF in Gaza. According to the UN, these forces will guard the enclave’s borders, maintain order and help train Palestinian police units.
It was previously reported that the White House plans to hold the first meeting of the leaders of US President Donald Trump’s so-called “Peace Council” on Gaza on February 19.
Let us recall that the ceremony of establishing the international organization “Peace Council” , initiated by US President Donald Trump, took place in Davos. According to him, the permanent members of the organization should participate in financing, paying a contribution of $ 1 billion each. Despite the expectation that a larger number of people would join the organization, only about 20 countries became members of the “Peace Council”.
