US offers Ukraine security guarantees in exchange for Donbas

Security guarantees from the United States for Ukraine may depend on Kyiv’s willingness to withdraw troops from unoccupied areas of Donbas.
This is reported by the Financial Times, citing sources familiar with the situation.
According to the publication, eight interlocutors familiar with the negotiations said that the administration of US President Donald Trump made it clear to the Ukrainian side: the provision of security guarantees would be linked to Kyiv’s agreement to a peace agreement.
This document, according to sources, provides for the withdrawal of Ukrainian military personnel from parts of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions that are not currently occupied by Russia.
In addition, the US informed Kyiv of the possibility of providing additional weapons to strengthen the army in peacetime if Ukraine agrees to the terms of the agreement.
Recall, Washington is considering an offer to Ukraine to give up Donbas in exchange for a plan to finance the country’s reconstruction worth $800 billion.
As reported, US President Donald Trump said that if Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian leader Vladimir Putin do not reach an agreement on a peace deal, it will mean that “they are stupid.”
