US pauses transfer of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine

Народний депутат Єгор Чернєв

The supply of Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine is currently suspended. This issue has been temporarily put on hold amid recent political events.

This was announced by People’s Deputy Yegor Chernev on the air of the “We-Ukraine” TV channel.

“All other areas of cooperation continue to be discussed. We are talking about providing more air defense systems and missiles for them, but through the PEARL program – funding from our European partners. The Build with Ukraine program is also actively developing – joint production with American companies, which uses technologies from both countries,” he noted.

According to the MP, the political dynamics surrounding the war changed after yesterday’s phone call between US President Donald Trump and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.

As Reuters previously reported, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will meet with US President Donald Trump at the White House on Friday, October 17, to discuss the possible supply of long-range Tomahawk missiles. However, the American leader’s unexpected statement about a potential summit with Vladimir Putin could affect the agenda of the upcoming talks, overshadowing Zelensky’s plans .

At the same time, Stacey Pettyjohn, director of the defense program at the Center for a New American Security, told the Financial Times that the transfer of Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine is unlikely to significantly change the situation on the battlefield . Even if a positive decision is made, it will only involve 20-50 missiles, which is a fairly limited arsenal.
