In the US, Democratic senators and Congressman Greg Meeks have called on major banks and port authorities to preserve documents related to agreements to supply Russian diesel fuel. If Democrats regain control of one or both houses of Congress, an investigation into President Donald Trump’s agreements with Moscow could become one of the key tasks.

This is reported by Axios .

In a letter to companies and port authorities, Democrats noted that any import of Russian diesel fuel into the United States raises serious legal issues and could be the subject of lawsuits and congressional investigations.

The letter was signed by Democratic Senators Chris Coons, Elizabeth Warren, Ron Wyden, and Sheldon Whitehouse, as well as Congressman Greg Meeks. The letter was initiated by Senator Jeanne Shaheen. The initiative was also supported by Republican Senator Tom Tillis.

Greg Meeks could head the House Foreign Affairs Committee if Democrats win a majority in that chamber.

The appeal contains a recommendation not to facilitate the purchase, transportation, import, unloading, storage, financing, or distribution of Russian diesel fuel in the United States. Democrats also called for not facilitating agreements to supply Russian diesel to other markets.

The authors of the letter emphasized the expectation of further parliamentary oversight and urged the companies to retain all documents related to the relevant agreements.

As journalists note, such a requirement indicates that a potential investigation could concern not only the White House, but also the management of large companies.

By the way, in the US, Congressmen Brian Fitzpatrick, Don Bacon, and Marie Glusenkamp Perez have introduced the bipartisan Ronald Reagan Peace Through Strength Act of 2026 to Congress . The document provides for the cancellation of the permit for the import of Russian energy resources, strengthening compliance with the relevant ban, and guaranteeing intelligence support to Ukraine.

The day before, it became known that Russia had sent its first tanker with diesel fuel to the United States . The 40,000-ton vessel is scheduled to depart this Thursday.

As a reminder, on October 16, Trump refused to apply sanctions against Russia , as stipulated by the Graham-Blumenthal Act. The US President exercised the right of temporary exemption, explaining the decision by the country’s national interests.
