Donald Trump announced that the United States has almost completely blocked the sea channels of drug trafficking, after which Washington plans to move to a new phase of operations. According to him, the main focus is now on actions directly on land.
“We have cut off 97% of the drug traffic coming by water, and now we are going to start hitting the cartels on land. The drug cartels run Mexico,” said Donald Trump.
He also stated that he would not give specific dates for the possible start of such operations.
Earlier, on January 5, Donald Trump stated that Mexico should step up its efforts to combat drug trafficking, as it is through its territory that drugs enter the United States.
Trump also said that he had repeatedly offered US military assistance to Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, but, according to him, the United States would still have to respond to the activities of drug cartels.
By the way, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio sharply criticized the Cuban government, calling it a “big problem.” At the same time, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel declared his readiness to send the army to Venezuela against the backdrop of American actions in the region.
As a reminder, on January 3, US President Donald Trump ordered strikes on targets inside Venezuela. The country’s government declared a state of emergency due to the American attack. Trump later announced that Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro and his wife had been captured and taken out of the country .
Also, the day before, it became known that the US had completed the operation in Venezuela , and Maduro himself will be tried for criminal offenses. Thus, the Venezuelan leader and his wife were charged with conspiracy with the purpose of “narco-terrorism” and with the purpose of “ importing cocaine .”
Instead, Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez publicly called on the United States to release Nicolas Maduro and his wife . She also stated that the country would never become a colony of any state and called on citizens to unite.
