CIA Director John Ratcliffe, during a secret visit to Moscow, proposed holding a trilateral summit involving US President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

This is reported by Axios .

According to the publication’s sources, Ratcliffe met with the director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service, Sergei Naryshkin, and the director of the FSB, Alexander Bortnikov, during his visit to Moscow . One of the goals of the trip was to find out whether Russian intelligence services could help Moscow return to negotiations mediated by the United States.

According to the journalists’ sources, Ratcliffe proposed to the Russian side the idea of a trilateral meeting between Trump, Zelensky, and Putin. On Friday, American officials informed the Ukrainian president about the results of the talks in Moscow and this initiative.

The Trump administration has already raised the issue of holding such a summit. Zelensky supported the idea, but Putin has previously refused to participate.

At the same time, Ukrainian officials are skeptical of the Kremlin’s intentions. According to them, Russia is preparing a new escalation of the war, in particular, considering possible offensive operations in northern Ukraine.

President Volodymyr Zelensky, commenting on US contacts with Russia, said: “I thank the United States for the necessary tone of conversation with Russia. The Trump administration is promoting a realistic vision of what needs to be done and what needs to be achieved,” the Ukrainian president said.

By the way, the head of the Presidential Office, Kirill Budanov, stated that the negotiation process between Ukraine and Russia is currently on pause, but they plan to resume it . A new meeting of the parties may take place as early as September.

As a reminder, Ukraine, together with the US and the European Union, has developed a new peace initiative to end the war . The plan calls for a ceasefire, withdrawal of troops from the current front line, and security guarantees for Ukraine from NATO and the EU.
