US seizes Russian oil tanker after two weeks of pursuit

The United States of America conducted an operation to seize the Venezuelan-bound oil tanker Mariner, which was sailing under the Russian flag.
This was reported by Reuters, citing sources.
As it became known, the US Coast Guard pursued a ship moving across the Atlantic for more than two weeks.
According to officials, the operation to land troops on the tanker was carried out by the Coast Guard in conjunction with the US military.
It is noted that during the seizure of the vessel, Russian military ships, including a submarine, were nearby.
The operation took place after a sanctioned tanker slipped through a US naval blockade and repelled attempts by the Coast Guard to board it.
Such actions could negatively impact relations between the United States and the Russian Federation, increasing tensions.
Among other things, US officials told Reuters that the Coast Guard had intercepted another tanker linked to Venezuela in Latin American waters.
Trump previously announced that Venezuela’s interim government would transfer 30 to 50 million barrels of oil, which is under sanctions, to the United States .
