US Senate approves “hellish sanctions” against Russia

The US Senate has approved Senator Lindsey Graham’s bill to tighten sanctions on Russia and Iran. The document was approved by 68 senators, with 9 voting against, after which the bill can move to the House of Representatives for consideration.

During the vote, the bill “Lindsey O. Graham Russia and Iran Sanctions Act of 2026” received the support of an overwhelming majority of the US Senate.
The US House of Representatives is expected to consider the document as early as next month.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga welcomed the decision of the US Senate and called it an important step to strengthen sanctions pressure on Russia.
“I sincerely welcome the adoption by the US Senate of Lindsey Graham’s “Russia and Iran Sanctions Act of 2026″ and am grateful for this important step aimed at further strengthening the sanctions regime against the Russian aggressor,” Andriy Sybiga said.
According to the minister, the adoption of the bill is a step towards increasing international pressure on Russia and supporting Ukraine in confronting Russian aggression.
The day before, it became known that the US Senate has begun debates on a bill on a new package of sanctions against Russia and Iran. The document provides, in particular, for a 500% duty on imports of Russian energy resources and coal into the US.
Recall that Democratic US Congressmen Don Baier and Brad Schneider opposed the bill on the so-called “hell” sanctions against Russia . At the same time, they stated that they continue to support sanctions pressure on Russia and aid to Ukraine.
It was previously reported that a bipartisan bill to strengthen sanctions against Russia, developed by Senator Lindsey Graham, has already received the support of 61 US senators.
