The U.S. State Department has approved the possible sale of 500 PAC-3 MSE missiles for Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine for a total of $2.1 billion. The purchase will be financed by Ukraine’s partners and allies, and no U.S. budget funds will be used for this purpose.

This was reported by the press service of the US State Department.

Ukraine has requested the purchase of 500 Patriot Advanced Capability-3 Missile Segment Enhancement (PAC-3 MSE) missiles. The package also includes spare parts for the missiles, logistics equipment, and software support services.

According to the US Department of State, the agreement should strengthen Ukraine’s capabilities in the field of integrated air and missile defense, as well as support the operation of existing Patriot systems to counter air threats.

Financing for the purchase will be provided by Canada, Germany, and Norway through the JUMPSTART program and national funds. They will also use financing under a European Union loan to support Ukraine. The State Department emphasized that American budget funds will not be involved for this deal.

The prime contractor has been identified as the American company Lockheed Martin, located in Bethesda, Maryland. According to the American department, the implementation of the potential deal will not require the dispatch of additional US government representatives or contractors to Ukraine.

The State Department’s approval concerns a potential sale and does not mean that a contract has been signed . The decision must go through the required review procedures in the US Congress, after which contract negotiations will begin.

It is expected that the delivery of the missiles may take place in stages over the coming years. However, the materials provided do not indicate the exact dates for the start of deliveries.

By the way, Ukraine received an average of only 12 Patriot interceptor missiles per month from the US during 2026 , while it has to shoot down about 150 Russian ballistic missiles every month. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy attributed the limited volume of American supplies to the war in the Middle East.
