US threatens to halt arms supplies to Ukraine over strikes on Russian refineries

The administration of US President Donald Trump is threatening to cut off support for Ukraine over the Defense Forces’ strikes on Russian oil refineries. This includes a possible suspension of intelligence sharing and a halt to the PURL program for the purchase of American weapons.

According to the publication, on October 10 and 11, Ukrainian and European officials received calls from the American side with warnings about the possible termination of military support for Ukraine if the attacks on Russian refineries continued.

“They’re calling Kyiv… They’re calling everyone [in Europe],” said a European official who spoke with a U.S. defense official the day before.

According to sources, Washington is threatening to stop intelligence sharing and halt the Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL), a program under which allied countries purchase weapons and military equipment from the US for Ukraine.

As the Financial Times notes, American officials also called the Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Brigadier General Pavlo Palis.

Separately, the publication reported that Trump’s announcement of an “energy truce” between Ukraine and Russia came as a surprise to the partners. The Ukrainian President’s Office said it was unaware of such an agreement, and at the time it was not clear whether Russia had agreed to it.

On the eve, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine will continue to strike Russian oil refineries if Russia does not stop attacking Ukrainian energy infrastructure . Any steps to de-escalate must be mutual and accompanied by real guarantees.

He stated this
