The United States is preparing to transfer weapons worth about $10 billion to NATO allies, with the subsequent delivery of this equipment to Ukraine. The agreement, signed by US President Donald Trump and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, provides for the transfer of the most modern weapons, including missiles, air defense systems and artillery ammunition.
This is reported by Axios .
According to journalists, the US will initially sell approximately $10 billion worth of weapons to NATO countries. This is only an initial amount – support may be scaled up later.
The key point: weapons will be transferred by European countries to Ukraine, and the US will provide replacements.
The agreement covers:
- Air defense systems , including Patriot systems;
- Rockets;
- Artillery ammunition.
President Trump noted that some of the Patriot systems will be delivered to Ukraine “very soon — within a few days.”
According to Trump, the US is only selling equipment, and the funding is left to European allies. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte confirmed that the main burden is borne by Europe, which, according to him, “has entered the game.”
This approach allows Ukraine to significantly strengthen its defense capabilities without directly involving the US budget. In addition, NATO will receive new American equipment, and Ukraine will receive proven modern weapons in the near future.
Earlier it was reported that a landmark meeting between US President Donald Trump and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte took place at the White House. During the briefing , Trump announced the transfer of up to 17 Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems to Ukraine and a large amount of other military aid , which will be partially financed by European allies. The president also threatened Russia with 100% tariffs if a peace agreement on Ukraine is not reached within 50 days.
It is worth adding that Trump will soon announce an “aggressive” plan to supply weapons to Ukraine . The US may transfer the missiles it receives to Moscow.
Recall that US President Donald Trump plans to send military aid to Ukraine for the first time since his return to the White House . This decision will be implemented through the so-called presidential powers to reduce arms stocks, which were previously actively used by Joe Biden. The preliminary cost of the package may reach about $ 300 million.
