The United States has agreed with NATO and Ukraine on a new arms supply scheme: American weapons will arrive through the Alliance, with NATO fully covering their cost.
This was stated by US President Donald Trump, Reuters reports.
“We supply weapons to NATO, and NATO pays for them 100%. The weapons first go to the Alliance, then to Ukraine, and NATO pays for them,” Trump explained.
The president also announced that he would make an “important statement” regarding Russia on Monday, hinting at his dissatisfaction with Putin’s position and threats to end the war.
This step means a transition to a new model of arms transfer, which allows for faster unloading and a reduction in the financial burden on the US budget – NATO will bear all costs.
Recall, US President Donald Trump plans to send military aid to Ukraine for the first time since his return to the White House . This decision will be implemented through the so-called presidential powers to reduce arms stocks, which were previously actively used by Joe Biden. The preliminary cost of the package may reach about $ 300 million.
As reported, the US has decided to resume military assistance to Ukraine , in particular, to provide a new batch of defensive weapons.
In addition, US President Donald Trump likely promised Volodymyr Zelensky to provide Patriot missiles to strengthen Ukrainian air defense.
Donald Trump later confirmed that Ukraine had requested another Patriot air defense system . He added that the White House was looking into the matter.
