US Vice President Vance made controversial statements about Ukraine and the EU during his visit to Hungary.

During his visit to Hungary, US Vice President J.D. Vance made a number of resonant statements on Ukraine and the European Union , and also openly supported the country’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban on the eve of the elections.

This became known during a joint press conference of politicians.

Vance claimed that there are allegedly elements within Ukrainian intelligence “trying to influence the outcome of elections in the US and Hungary.” He described this as “common practice,” essentially echoing narratives previously voiced by Hungarian authorities.

The vice president also claimed that certain representatives of the Ukrainian system allegedly campaigned in support of Democrats ahead of the 2024 US presidential election.

Vance directed particular criticism at the European Union . He claimed that “bureaucrats in Brussels” are allegedly trying to weaken Hungary out of personal animosity toward Orbán, specifically through economic pressure and interference in the country’s domestic politics.

Furthermore, Vence effectively put Orban on par with US President Donald Trump , stating that it was these two leaders who “did the most to end the war in Ukraine.”

The vice president also expressed confidence that Orban would win the upcoming elections and rejected accusations of his pro-Russian stance, blaming Europe’s energy problems on the EU’s own previous policies.
