Vice-President of the European Parliament declared a hunger strike over the situation in Oleshki

Vice-President of the European Parliament Pina Picherno has declared a hunger strike to draw attention to the humanitarian catastrophe in Russian-occupied Oleshki in the Kherson region.
The politician announced this on the social network X.
According to Picherno, residents of the town are left without regular access to food and medicine. Due to mined areas, leaving Oleshki poses a serious danger to civilians.
The Vice President of the European Parliament is demanding an immediate humanitarian ceasefire, which would allow food and medicine to be delivered to the city and the safe evacuation of those who wish to do so.
“The residents of Oleshki cannot be left to their own devices,” she emphasized, calling on public organizations, citizens, and authorities to join the initiative.
Picherno explained that her action is also aimed at supporting the efforts of Pope Leo XIV, who is trying to gain humanitarian access to the city.
As a reminder, on October 16, the Pope discussed the humanitarian situation in Oleshki with Putin . The Pontiff called for a ceasefire to ensure the delivery of aid and the evacuation of civilians.
On October 4, Ukrainian military personnel delivered almost four tons of humanitarian aid to occupied Oleshki . Food, medicine, and baby kits were delivered to residents using drones.
