Finland clinched its fifth IIHF World Championship title by defeating Switzerland in a dramatic final in Zurich. The championship was decided in overtime, with the winning goal coming in the 71st minute after a fiercely contested battle at Swiss Life Arena.

The final match of the World Cup was between Switzerland and Finland. The match ended goalless in regular time—0:0.

In the first period, the Finnish team was active, taking 14 shots to the opponent’s 7. However, neither side managed to open the score.

In the second period, Switzerland had the advantage, while the Finns had only 2 shots on goal. Despite this, the score remained unchanged.

The third twenty minutes also ended goalless. The teams had several dangerous moments, particularly during the 4-on-4 game, but were unable to capitalize on them.

Both teams had chances to score in overtime. At the start of extra time, Jesse Pulujärvi hit the post, and in the 65th minute, the goal frame saved the Finnish team after a shot by Damian Riat.

The winning goal in the 71st minute was scored by 20-year-old Konsta Helenius, giving Finland a 1-0 victory.

Finland won their fifth World Cup title in history, while Switzerland lost their fifth World Cup final in 13 years, having lost in 2013, 2018, 2024, 2025 and 2026.
