Viktor Tsygankov has officially transferred from Girona to Ajax.
Ukrainian winger Viktor Tsygankov will continue his career in the Netherlands. The 28-year-old has officially signed for Ajax Amsterdam.
The Dutch club announced the transfer.
Tsygankov signed a contract with Ajax until June 30, 2029.
According to Spanish newspaper AS, the Dutch club will pay €3.5 million for the Ukrainian, with Girona potentially receiving up to €1 million in bonuses. The Spanish club will also retain a percentage of the player’s future sale.
A key factor in the transfer was Michel’s appointment as Ajax head coach. The Spanish coach knows Tsygankov well, as it was under him that the Ukrainian played at Girona.
Michel praised the footballer’s professional qualities and his attitude towards the team, noting his work ethic, mentality, and ability to quickly adapt.
Ajax technical director Jordi Cruyff also stated that Tsygankov’s experience should immediately strengthen the team’s roster, and that the player himself is a good fit for the style of play the club plans to implement.
Tsygankov transferred to Girona from Dynamo Kyiv in the winter of 2023. The Ukrainian played over 100 official matches for the Spanish club.
His final spell at Girona proved difficult. After the opening matchday of the championship, coach Quique Álvarez announced that Tsygankov had refused to take the field. Meanwhile, the player’s representatives claimed he was on sick leave and not ready for the match.
Following this, the club initiated disciplinary proceedings against the Ukrainian. The parties eventually reached an agreement on the transfer.
Tsygankov played 67 matches for the Ukrainian national team.
For Tsygankov, this is effectively an opportunity to restart his career: he is moving to a club with a long European history, to a coach who already knows his strengths, and receiving a long-term contract until 2029.
