Voice of America announces resumption of Ukrainian broadcasting

The management of Voice of America has decided to resume broadcasting in Ukrainian and return some of the employees of the Ukrainian editorial office to work.

This was reported by the head of the Ukrainian service, Ruslan Petrichka.

According to Petrichka, the resumption of the Ukrainian service confirms the strategic importance of Ukrainian-language broadcasting for fulfilling the mission of Voice of America and protecting US interests.

“This is a very important decision. Especially now, when Russia is carrying out daily strikes on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities, killing civilians, and continuing large-scale propaganda and disinformation campaigns against Ukraine,” he noted.

Petrichka said that journalists from the Ukrainian editorial office are already preparing to resume broadcasting next week. He also expressed hope that more employees of the service will return to work soon.

At the same time, he clarified that he formally remains the head of the Ukrainian service of the Voice of America, but is still on administrative leave, so he cannot disclose details about the resumption of broadcasting.

It was previously reported that in May of last year, employees of the Voice of America news agency began receiving official notices of layoffs.

Also in March of this year, a US federal court ruled to overturn a decision by the US Agency for Global Media (USAGM) that led to the dismissal of over a thousand Voice of America employees.
