The European Union plans to significantly increase pressure on Russia by introducing a new sanctions package that will affect three key areas at once – energy, financial services, and trade.
This was announced by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen after the informal EU summit in Copenhagen. She published the corresponding statement on the social network X.
According to her, Brussels is moving away from the phased introduction of restrictions and instead moving towards a tougher format of sanctions pressure.
“We are no longer proposing gradual measures. We are advocating for much stricter restrictions in the areas of energy, finance and trade,” von der Leyen said.
This concerns the preparation of the 19th sanctions package, which is currently under discussion among EU member states.
As a reminder, the European Union may agree on new sanctions against Russia in the coming days . This is the 19th package of restrictions, which is being prepared in response to the war against Ukraine.
As reported, the European Union is preparing another — already strengthened — package of sanctions against Russia, which will cover key areas: energy, financial services, and international trade.
