War and sanctions hit Russia: Danish intelligence warned of crisis

The war against Ukraine is putting increasing pressure on the Russian economy: Moscow is spending huge amounts on defense, and sanctions and prolonged hostilities create additional risks. Danish intelligence believes that the Russian economy is approaching a serious crisis.

This is reported by Axios, citing an assessment by the Danish Defense Intelligence Service (DDIS).

The report notes that after more than four years of full-scale war, Russia is suffering significant losses while making limited territorial gains. The Kremlin is having to divert more and more resources to the army to continue fighting.

According to DDIS estimates, Russian military losses have exceeded 1 million since the start of the full-scale invasion. In the summer, the number of casualties, according to Danish intelligence, already exceeded the number of new recruits.

International sanctions and Ukrainian strikes on Russia’s critical infrastructure are putting additional pressure on the Russian economy. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called such attacks “long-range sanctions,” emphasizing their impact on Russia’s military economy.

At the same time, Moscow is increasing its activity outside Ukraine. DDIS has drawn attention to the growth of Russian subversive activities and cyberattacks against Western countries.

Danish intelligence expects Russian President Vladimir Putin to continue aggressive actions against neighboring states and countries that support Ukraine.

At the same time, DDIS does not detect any signs that Russia is currently preparing to invade a NATO country. At the same time, Danish intelligence expects further intensification of Russian hybrid activity and aggressive actions against states that support Ukraine.

Recall that Russian special services are preparing specific sabotage in Denmark, in particular against defense-industrial complex enterprises that are related to military assistance to Ukraine. Danish counterintelligence has already detected attempts by Russians to involve ordinary citizens in this through social networks.

As reported, the British government has warned the heads of defense companies that supply weapons and other products to Ukraine about the risk of attacks and sabotage by Russian special services.
