During a meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky in Washington, US President Donald Trump avoided a direct answer to the question of whether Ukraine should cede territory to achieve peace with Russia.
He announced this at the White House on October 17.
“You never know. War is a very interesting thing. You never know. With war, war and peace, you just never know,” he said.
Journalists also asked the American president what he planned to do if Vladimir Putin did not agree to peace during a possible meeting in Hungary. In response, Trump expressed cautious optimism.
“Well, let’s see what happens. You know what? If I think he agrees, then President Putin wants to end the war, otherwise I wouldn’t be saying that. I think he wants to end the war,” he said.
Trump also said that the day before, he had a long conversation with the Russian dictator, during which the parties discussed key details of the war.
“We discussed a lot of details. He wants the war to end,” the American leader added.
Recall, US President Donald Trump on Thursday evening, October 16, revealed the first details of his telephone conversation with Russian ruler Vladimir Putin. The American leader emphasized that the conversation was productive, as well as the fact that Putin congratulated him on the great success in resolving the war in the Middle East. Now the US leader intends to meet with the Kremlin leader in Hungary in order to put an end to Russia’s war against Ukraine .
