War veteran calls for protest over virtual destruction of NABU and SAP independence

Veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war Dmitry Kozyatinsky called on citizens to take part in a rally in defense of the independence of Ukraine’s anti-corruption agencies.

He wrote about this in his X.

According to Kazyatinsky, the gathering is planned for 20:00 near the Ivan Franko Theatre in Kiev , which is the closest accessible location to the President’s office. He emphasized that the initiative must be civil, so he called on political parties and figures to refrain from using symbols and political statements .

Kozyatinsky noted that the action is being organized in response to today’s decision by the Verkhovna Rada, which voted for changes that effectively eliminate the independence of NABU and SAP , transferring them to the subordination of the Prosecutor General.

“So take cardboard boxes and make posters where you write everything you think about the recent attack on the anti-corruption system,” the veteran addressed the citizens.

On Tuesday, July 22, the Verkhovna Rada voted for a bill that significantly limits the powers of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO), effectively subordinating their activities to the Prosecutor General.

Let us recall that the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office have published an official statement on draft law No. 12414, which is being prepared for the second reading in the Verkhovna Rada. The anti-corruption agencies warn that the latest amendments to the document pose a serious threat to the independence of their activities.
