In May 2024, Ukrainian singer Vitaly Kozlovsky was transferred to the 22nd Separate Mechanized Brigade as a reserve soldier. However, he actually served there for less than a month and was discharged into the reserves.

Hromadske reports this, citing a response from the Communications Directorate of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Ground Forces Command.

“Vitaliy Vitaliyovych Kozlovsky was appointed by order of the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (personnel) on May 23, 2024, to the position of reserve soldier in the 3rd reserve platoon of the 90th reserve company of military unit A4718. He arrived at the military unit from the National Presidential Orchestra of the year 2,” the response reads.

As a reserve soldier, Kozlovsky was required to attend regular training sessions so that he could quickly replace soldiers on the front lines if necessary.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces noted that Kozlovsky “did not directly participate in events necessary to ensure Ukraine’s defense,” but held concerts in units to “raise the morale and fighting spirit of military personnel.”

On June 28, 2024, he was dismissed by order of his commander, having served in the Ukrainian Armed Forces for less than a month.

Despite this, in his latest interview, Kozlovsky noted that he and his fellow soldier “are engaged in foster care,” providing support to the families of fallen and missing defenders, and raising funds for his previous brigade. When asked whether this was an official assignment, he replied, “You could say so.” Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Armed Forces denied this information.

“Vitalii Kozlovskyi is no longer providing nursing care to his military unit after his dismissal and has not been released,” the Ukrainian Armed Forces noted.

The singer’s press service clarified that he is not a military service member, but continues to support the army through a charitable initiative—the “Ray of Help” patronage service of the 22nd Separate Mechanized Brigade, which operates as an independent foundation and not as part of the brigade.

Social media reaction:

Some of the correspondents reacted negatively to this information and were outraged by how it turned out.

Some even called for ignoring the musician’s concerts.

However, there were also those who stood up for the artist and supported him.
