Washington against reparations loan to Ukraine from Russian assets: what is known

The US tried to convince European Union countries not to use frozen Russian assets for a reparations loan to Ukraine.
European diplomats told Bloomberg about this.
According to the agency’s interlocutors, American officials insisted that these funds could be needed for a future peace agreement between Kyiv and Moscow, so the EU should not direct them to support Ukraine in the war. Washington also proposed using the assets to finance American investments after the war ends.
European leaders responded that the issue of frozen assets is an internal EU matter, since the European Union controls most of them.
As previously reported, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced two decisions that will help cover Ukraine’s financial needs for the next two years.
