The United States remains open to negotiations with Russia, even after imposing sanctions on two leading Russian oil companies.

This was stated by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, CNN reports.

“We are still interested in meeting with the Russian side. I had a constructive conversation with Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, and we plan to continue this dialogue. If there is a chance to achieve peace, we are always ready to take it,” Rubio said before flying to Israel.

The diplomat also stressed that President Donald Trump’s decision to impose restrictions on the Russian energy sector was a fulfillment of his previous promises.

“The President has repeatedly said that if there is no progress in the peace negotiations, he will have to act. And today he made this decision,” the Secretary of State added.

As a reminder, the Donald Trump administration has announced the first major package of financial restrictions aimed at the Russian economy . This move is part of Washington’s new strategy, the aim of which is to force the Kremlin to end its war against Ukraine.

By the way, the ambassadors of the European Union agreed on the 19th for a package of sanctions against the Russian Federation due to the war against Ukraine.
