Water tariffs to be reviewed: where prices could increase the most

Cold water tariffs may increase in Ukraine. After changes that came into effect on June 1, local authorities have gained more authority to set water supply prices, and some water utilities have already started talking about raising prices.

This is stated in the material of OBOZ.UA.

One of the loudest price increases is being proposed in Vinnytsia. The local water utility there wants to raise the tariff from UAH 25.62 to UAH 81.01 per cubic meter. The company explains this by saying that the current price does not cover the costs of providing services.

“Today, this tariff covers less than 32% of the real cost of services. It will only get worse,” the water utility said.

As experts note, the problem is not limited to Vinnytsia. In many cities, utility companies are operating at a loss due to rising costs for electricity, network repairs, and infrastructure maintenance.

Currently, some of the highest water tariffs are in effect in Uman, Drohobych, and Pavlohrad. In smaller cities, water is often more expensive because the costs have to be shared among fewer consumers.

At the same time, the gas tariff for the population remains unchanged for the time being. Due to the moratorium, there are no plans to revise it until the end of martial law and for another six months after that.

However, after the war, the situation may change. According to experts, the economically justified price of gas is currently almost twice as high as the current tariff, so a gradual increase in price in the future is not ruled out.
