United States President Donald Trump has denied media reports that he had called on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to hand over control of all of Donbas to Russia. The American leader explained that the conversation only focused on the need to stop hostilities.
This is reported by Rapid Response 47 .
During a conversation with reporters, Trump stressed that the information about the possible transfer of Donbas is not true. He stated that the goal of the negotiations was to stop the war, not to discuss territorial concessions.
“No, we have never discussed this,” he said. “We believe that the parties should stop at the current front lines. The rest of the issues are too complex for negotiation. Now we just need to stop the killing and stop.”
When asked about the future of Donbas, Trump said that the situation should remain unchanged. He clarified that about seventy-eight percent of the region is currently under Russian control, and the final status can be determined later.
“Let everything remain as it is. Then we can come to an agreement. But the main thing now is to stop the fighting,” the US president concluded.
It was reported the day before that during a meeting in Washington on October 17, US President Donald Trump urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to accept Russia’s conditions for ending the war . Trump warned that Vladimir Putin could “destroy” Ukraine if Kyiv did not agree.
Meanwhile, US presidential envoy Steve Witkoff insisted during a meeting at the White House that Ukraine hand over control of the Donetsk region to Russia , arguing that the region is predominantly Russian-speaking. This position provoked a sharp reaction from the Ukrainian delegation.
By the way, Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a telephone conversation with Donald Trump , demanded that Kyiv hand over full control over the Donetsk region to Moscow as a condition for ending the war against Ukraine.
