The United States sells weapons to European countries, which are then sent to Ukraine with a 10% markup.
US Treasury Secretary Bessant said this in an interview with Fox News.
He explained that the markup partially covers the costs of military assistance.
The United States plans to recoup its investment after the end of Russia’s war against Ukraine through an economic partnership with Ukraine.
“We have created this economic partnership, which, once the conflict stops, can bring significant benefits to American taxpayers. We will be able to return our investments. If everything is good in Ukraine, it will be good for us,” Bessent said.
However, he noted that for this to happen, the conflict must end. The US is already launching some investments, and President Trump is acting with caution and attentiveness.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump said that thanks to the subsoil agreement, the United States will receive more than $350 billion worth of rare earth metals from Ukraine .
It is worth noting that the White House is planning to hold a meeting between Presidents Donald Trump, Volodymyr Zelensky, and Putin in the Hungarian capital, Budapest .
