If the United States delays or fails to resume military aid, Ukraine will still be able to fight and defend itself — but the cost of such a decision by President Donald Trump’s administration will be high.
This opinion was expressed live on the air of “Pryamyi” by military analyst Oleksiy Hetman.

“To victory. Even if the supply of weapons from the United States is suspended or scaled back, we will still achieve our goal — to defend our country. But unfortunately, the price we will have to pay for such decisions by President Donald Trump’s administration will be much higher,” noted military analyst Oleksiy Hetman.

At the same time, he warned that this kind of information strongly resembles a Russian disinformation operation. “Peskov has already said that if the US halts support for Ukraine, it will simply accelerate the completion of the so-called ‘special military operation.’ They claim they won’t stop until the root cause of the war is eliminated — and for them, that root cause is the very existence of our state,” Hetman added.

Hetman also emphasized that the current US administration has adopted a puzzling stance on support for Ukraine, especially given the security guarantees offered to Kyiv in exchange for giving up its nuclear arsenal.

“They have always presented themselves as a model democracy — one that protects countries suffering from aggression. Trump talks about ‘making America great again.’ But with such actions, America’s greatness, at least in our eyes, is slowly fading. Let him keep chatting with Putin about ‘some matches,’ if that’s what he wants,” he added.

Hetman stressed that what is most disheartening is not just the drone and missile attacks, but the behavior of those who once guaranteed Ukraine’s security.

“When we gave up our nuclear weapons, they acted as if they were doing us a favor. But let’s remember the reality: the machines used to produce missile systems were destroyed by the Americans. Our strategic bombers were dismantled. We disarmed to reduce global tensions — to decrease the number of nuclear-armed states. We laid down our arms in the name of peace,” Hetman concluded.

As is known, the US temporarily suspended the supply of some anti-aircraft missiles and precision-guided munitions to Ukraine due to concerns about the level of its defense reserves. Later, the Pentagon assured that Washington would continue to work on solutions.

It should be noted that the decision of the US Department of Defense to stop sending certain types of weapons to Ukraine without warning came as a surprise not only to American diplomats but also to congressmen, who usually have access to such information. Subsequently, President Donald Trump stated that the US would continue to supply weapons to Ukraine.

In addition, as NBC reports, the US authorities have suspended the delivery of another package of weapons to Ukraine, citing possible risks of depleting its arsenals. At the same time, an analysis conducted by the Pentagon’s Joint Staff showed that assisting Ukraine does not jeopardize the defense capabilities of the US Armed Forces.

The temporary suspension was initiated by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, his third time blocking arms deliveries to Ukraine. The decision sparked concern within the State Department, raised alarm among European allies, and drew bipartisan criticism in the U.S. Congress.
