We will stop importing 40% of electricity: Hungary threatens Ukraine due to attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the Druzhba oil pipeline
Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó has once again announced the possible cessation of energy supplies to Ukraine. At the same time, he stressed that Budapest is refraining from such a step allegedly out of “pity for Ukrainian children.”
He told this in an interview with Harcosok órája .
According to Szijjártó, it accounts for 30% to 40% of Ukrainian imports. Szijjártó wondered what the consequences of cutting off such a share of energy supply would be for the country, hinting at Budapest’s willingness to use this lever.
At the same time, he added that energy cooperation allegedly does not concern the Ukrainian government or president, but directly affects the lives of ordinary people.
“We don’t want a Ukrainian apartment where small children live to be without heating, because these small children cannot be responsible for how a former actor, and now their president, behaves,” the minister said.
These threats came against the backdrop of recent attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on Russian energy infrastructure. In particular, on August 13 and 18, Ukrainian drones hit the Druzhba oil pipeline, causing fires and forcing Russia to temporarily stop pumping oil. This became one of the factors aggravating relations between Kyiv and Budapest, which traditionally takes a pro-Russian position in European politics.
Earlier, Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanar stated that Ukraine’s attacks on the Russian Druzhba oil pipeline not only contradict the interests of Bratislava, but also harm Kyiv.
It is worth noting that Ukrainian drones hit a strategic facility on Russian territory – an oil pumping station in the city of Unecha, Bryansk region . The facility is part of the Druzhba oil pipeline system.
Later, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó again announced the attack on the Druzhba oil pipeline , which caused the supply of Russian oil to his country to stop.
By the way, the Foreign Ministers of Hungary and Slovakia called on the EU to guarantee the energy security of the union’s member states through strikes on Russia.
