Weapons cache linked to Russian agents discovered in Germany: details

пістолет, зброя

A cache of two firearms has been discovered on the outskirts of Berlin, which German intelligence services have linked to Russian agents. According to investigators, the weapons could have been left for use in physical attacks in Germany.

This is reported by Tagesschau .

The cache was discovered late last summer in a wooded area on the border between Berlin and Brandenburg. According to journalists, it was professionally equipped, and two pistols or revolvers were found inside.

Germany’s Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV) believes that the cache could have been a so-called “dead mailbox” for Russian intelligence services.

The publication’s interlocutors suggest that the weapons could have been left for agents who, on behalf of Moscow, were to carry out “kinetic operations” on German territory, that is, physical attacks.

German security services did not immediately liquidate the hideout, but instead installed technical surveillance over it to try to identify possible customers or people who could take the weapons.

At the same time, the hideout is now considered “dead.” According to sources, those involved in its creation may have learned about the law enforcement operation after the arrest in Romania of a suspect in the creation of another hideout. The Russian Embassy in Germany has not commented on the situation at this time.

Tagesschau noted that German security authorities have warned in recent months about possible plans by Russian special services for physical attacks in Germany, in particular against representatives of the defense industry and Russian oppositionists in exile.

It was previously reported that German intelligence services have little doubt that Russia could be behind the incident with a drone with explosives at Leipzig/Halle airport . At that time, part of the drone was later found on the wing of the Antonov near the fuel tanks. The detonator did not work. If the explosive had detonated near the tanks, the consequences could have been much more serious. At the same time, the German government has not yet publicly accused Moscow, since the investigation has not yet received conclusive evidence of its involvement.
