Former Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that Ukraine will almost certainly not become a member of NATO in the near future. At the same time, he outlined 3 real security guarantees that, in his opinion, can protect the state.
He talked about this in his interview .
Dmytro Kuleba stressed that in the absence of prospects for rapid accession to NATO, Ukraine should focus on alternative security mechanisms. He called the first such guarantee the systematic and large-scale supply of weapons to the Armed Forces of Ukraine from the United States of America and the European Union.
“Not general words that over the next 10 years America and Europe will support the Armed Forces of Ukraine in their development, but very specific ones. Every year, for example, two air defense batteries, or 2 million shells, tanks, drones, missiles, and so on for 10 years,” said Dmytro Kuleba.
According to him, it is precisely this model of support that can ensure Ukraine’s real defense capability.
Kuleba called Ukraine’s membership in the European Union a second security guarantee. He noted that the war began because of the perception of Ukraine as a buffer zone between Russia and the West.
“Because this war began in 2014 and escalated into a full-scale Russian invasion for one simple reason: because Putin believed that Ukraine was a buffer zone that he had the right to take for himself,” said Dmytro Kuleba.
The former minister added that Ukraine’s inclusion in the European Union should deprive Russia of such a perception and consolidate the European status of our state.
He called the third security guarantee the restoration of Ukraine and long-term financial support. According to Kuleba, the internal stability of the state is a key condition for reforms and preventing political populism.
“Because, as I have always said, the only strength is in the Ukrainian army, in Ukrainian entrepreneurs,” emphasized Dmytro Kuleba.
By the way, the administration of US President Donald Trump is ready to provide Ukraine with security guarantees built on the principle of NATO Article 5 , which will have legal force.
As reported, Donald Trump’s new peace plan is almost no different from the scandalous “28 points” and once again demands serious concessions from Ukraine.
