The Alternative for Germany (AfD) does not expect to be able to form a government in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern despite winning the election. Other parties have ruled out cooperation with the AfD, so a coalition without it is considered the most likely option.

AfD’s candidate for state premier, Leif-Erik Holm, said that the party could govern the state, but currently does not see such a possibility.

“I believe we could manage. However, right now it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen,” Holm said.

According to him, the most likely option is a three-party coalition between the Social Democratic Party of Germany, the Left Party, and the Greens.

“This is certainly not the best direction for our land,” he added.

At the same time, Holm emphasized that the AfD received a mandate from voters to form a government and expects other parties to agree to negotiations.

“That is why we expect other parties to be ready to negotiate with us,” he concluded.

Recall that the vote counting in the state parliament elections in Berlin has been completed. The Left Party took first place, receiving 25.7% of the vote.

In addition, the AfD won the elections in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , where Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s CDU showed its worst result in its history.
