What will change for Ukrainians from May 1: tariffs, pensions and property registration

In May 2026, Ukrainians will face several important changes at once – from new utility payments to updated property registration rules.

New electricity tariffs

During the heating season, owners of homes with electric heating could pay for electricity at a reduced rate – 2.64 UAH per kWh, and with dual-zone meters at night – only 1.32 UAH.

In May, this benefit will be canceled, and a single tariff of UAH 4.32 per kWh will apply to all household consumers.

Supplements for pensioners

Some pensioners will receive age-related allowances in May. These are citizens whose pension does not exceed UAH 10,340.35.

The amount of the surcharge depends on age:

• from 70 to 74 years old – 300 UAH
• from 75 to 79 years old – 456 UAH
• from 80 years old and older – 570 UAH

There is no need to contact the Pension Fund separately – the allowances are calculated automatically.

New rules for banks

A new resolution of the National Bank, which strengthens control over banks, will come into effect on May 1.

The regulator will be able to respond more quickly to the deterioration of the financial condition of institutions and monitor the launch of new banking products to better protect customer funds.

Registration of property for children

Another important change will come into effect on May 25. Ukraine will simplify the procedure for registering property for children.

Now, in order to give a child an apartment, house, car, or other valuable property, you will not need to obtain permission from the guardianship and trusteeship authority – parental consent will be enough.

At the same time, the sale or other disposal of property that already belongs to the child will, as before, require the permission of the relevant authority.
