When will Iran resume production of enriched uranium: IAEA forecast

The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, has expressed the opinion that Iran could begin producing enriched uranium within a few months, despite recent US and Israeli strikes on several of its nuclear facilities.

The Guardian writes about this.

According to Grossi in an interview with CBS News, the country may have enough time to launch several cascades of centrifuges that will work on enriching uranium.

Another important question is whether Iran had time to move its stockpile of highly enriched uranium, estimated to be about 408.6 kg, before the strikes.

This material is enriched to 60%, which is above the level needed for peaceful use but still below that needed for nuclear weapons. With further refinement, this amount of uranium could be enough to make more than nine nuclear warheads.

“We don’t know yet where this material is. Some of it could have been destroyed during the attacks, others could have been moved. It will become clear later,” Grossi explained.

This week, the Iranian parliament voted to suspend cooperation with the IAEA, and the Tehran authorities denied Grossi access to the affected facilities, including the Fordow complex, which is one of the main uranium enrichment centers.

“We must be able to check what is happening at these facilities and what their condition is,” the head of the agency emphasized.

At the same time, former US President Donald Trump expressed his belief that Iran had failed to move its stockpile of enriched uranium.

“It’s too difficult to do, especially when we didn’t report the strikes in advance. They didn’t have time to take anything out,” he said earlier.

Israel launched a series of strikes on Iranian nuclear and military sites on June 13 in an effort to stop Tehran’s development of nuclear weapons, which Tehran denies. The United States later joined the operation, striking key sites in Iran’s nuclear program.

As a reminder, Democratic Congressman from Texas Al Green initiated a new attempt to impeach President Donald Trump, accusing him of usurping the powers of Congress after a unilateral decision to launch missile strikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities .

As reported, US strikes on three major uranium enrichment sites in Iran failed to destroy key elements of Iran’s nuclear program . However, these strikes did delay the program’s development by about several months.

By the way, US President Donald Trump assured that he is ready to attack Iran’s nuclear facilities again if necessary.
