When will the frosts recede: what do the experts say?

The first days of the new year in Ukraine are taking place in a typical winter mode, and this weather situation will persist at least during the first decade of January.

This was announced during the telethon by the spokeswoman of the Ukrhydrometeorological Center, Natalia Ptukha.

According to the weather forecaster, the coldest nights of this winter are already behind us – they fell on the previous and last night. In the future, weather forecasters predict a gradual increase in temperature, although the general winter nature of the weather will remain.

Precipitation will be unevenly distributed in the coming days. Thus, on January 2, it is forecasted in the northwestern regions, on January 3 – in most regions of the country, and on January 4 – mainly in the south and southeast of Ukraine.

The cause of temperature fluctuations and mixed precipitation is the influence of a cyclone, the center of which is currently located over the Baltic Sea. Its atmospheric fronts will periodically pass through the territory of Ukraine, bringing snow, sleet, and rain.

During the day, the temperature will range from -2 degrees Celsius to -3 degrees Celsius, and in the south, the air will warm up to +7 in some places. At night, the thermometer will drop to -3–8 degrees Celsius.

The weather will remain changeable next week. Forecasters warn of a possible drop in temperature by several degrees both during the day and at night on January 5-6. Because of this, icy roads will remain, so drivers and pedestrians are advised to be especially careful.
