From September 1, 2027, all educational institutions operating in the lyceum category will fully transition to 12-year education.
This was reported by Deputy Head of the Ministry of Education and Science Nadia Kuzmychova in a comment to RBC-Ukraine.
“All children who will enter the 10th grade in 2027 will study for 12 years. There are already children in this system who began studying with the start of the reform in 2018,” the official said.
Kuzmichova recalled that this reform began back in 2018, and all students who entered first grade then are studying according to the new standard.
At the same time, she noted that the ministry is not imposing new obligations on parents regarding the age at which children should be sent to school. No changes are expected in this regard.
“For example, in 2018, someone sent their child to school at 6 years old, someone at 7. In 2025, it will be the same: someone sent them at 6, someone at 7. This is not the state’s decision, this is the decision of the parents themselves. The state will definitely not regulate this, under any circumstances,” the official explained.
Recall that earlier, due to potential long power outages , the Ministry of Education and Science advised schools to consider postponing some classes to June 2026 , extending winter vacations, or switching to a six-day week.
