A localized ceasefire is expected to be implemented in the occupied town of Oleshky in the Kherson region on October 29, 2026. This will allow for the evacuation of civilians and the delivery of humanitarian aid to the town.

The White House reported this.

The main goal of the agreements is to rescue civilians on the brink of a humanitarian catastrophe. During the temporary cessation of hostilities, it is planned to evacuate people and supply them with medicine, drinking water, and food.

The needs of residents will be assessed by civilian representatives from both countries directly at their places of residence. Residents will be able to independently determine their evacuation destination—to Ukraine or Russia. Representatives of an independent American media organization will monitor the progress of the humanitarian operation.

Particular attention will be paid to elderly people in need of emergency medical care.

Before the full-scale Russian invasion, Oleshky had a population of approximately 24,000. Currently, estimates indicate that between 1,700 and 2,000 residents remain in the town, including approximately 50 children.

The town is regularly shelled and remains cut off from reliable supplies. The roads around the town are heavily mined, and the electricity supply is intermittent.

The situation was also exacerbated by the consequences of the explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station, after which approximately 90% of the city’s territory was under water.

It was previously reported that Ukraine was close to resolving the issue of evacuating civilians from the temporarily occupied town of Oleshky. Residents are currently suffering from food and medicine shortages, which pose a threat to their lives.

It was previously reported that Ukraine and Russia agreed to a local ceasefire in Oleshky, Kherson Oblast, effective October 29. The ceasefire is intended to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid and preparation for the evacuation of civilians.
