Who is behind the assassination attempt on Charter commander Obolensky and what does this say about the tactics of the Russian special services?

Today in the center of Kharkiv, 69-year-old Kharkiv resident Gennady Parfenyuk tried to kill one of the top commanders of the Ukrainian Defense Forces. Parfenyuk received a tip from an observer who was following Obolensky and arrived at the place where the commander was supposed to appear. The whole time, the traitor was in contact with the organizer of the assassination attempt via phone and headphones.

Having received the command to go outside, Parfenyuk approached the commander and his bodyguard from behind, pointed his pistol at them and pulled the trigger. But the shot did not fire because… Parfenyuk was so excited that he did not put the cartridge in the chamber!

Parfenyuk tried to load the weapon, but the comkor heard the sound, turned around, and saw the barrel looking at him from a distance of three meters, but reacted quickly – together with the guard they detained the traitor. The headphones fell out of their man’s ears and the Russian curator could be heard shouting: “Shoot him, work!”.

The attack was caught on numerous surveillance cameras.

Parfenyuk is a pensioner, his last known place of work on the Internet was as a driver for one of the communal enterprises of the Kharkiv City Council. Parfenyuk voiced his legend – allegedly, he received an order from SBU officers to attack in the center of Kharkiv… a Russian agent, about whom he had never heard or known anything before.

He received a Makarov pistol with one magazine from another agent, and the task was to get up close and fire several shots at a person he didn’t know and who the “curators” had to point out to him on the spot. It’s that simple – strangers call on the phone, hand over the pistol, go to the center and pull the trigger.

Parfenyuk did not undergo any special training for the terrorist attack, he served in the security forces and owned weapons. He was allegedly recruited in early July.

As far as is known, SBU officers have already detained several agents from this Russian group in this case.

Today is, without exaggeration, another birthday for Igor Obolensky. He survived thanks to his quick reaction and the mistake of a Russian agent. So, there is still a lot to do in life.

At the moment, Obolensky commands the 2nd Corps, consisting of 9 brigades of the Ukrainian National Guard and the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which operate in a wide strip in the Kharkiv region, where the offensive of Russian troops has been completely stopped for a long time, and successful counterattacks are being carried out. Obviously, the enemy is planning active measures.

This year, Russian special services also planned a terrorist attack against the commander of the 3rd Corps, Andriy Biletsky; the Russian agent was also detained.

This is another confirmation that the enemy has intensified its intelligence work and is trying to conduct a targeted hunt for Ukrainian commanders, so security measures must be strengthened.

The day before, on July 31, an attempt was made on the commander of the 13th brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine “Charter”, Ihor Obolensky . The attacker and his accomplice have already been detained, and procedural actions are underway to establish all the circumstances.
