Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi said that the development of unmanned technologies has fundamentally changed the nature of combat operations in Ukraine. According to him, due to the constant threat from drones, heavy armored vehicles have lost their effectiveness, and the military is forced to advance on foot.

This is reported by The Times .

Syrsky noted that the modern battlefield has become “transparent” as reconnaissance drones quickly detect any accumulation of equipment. After that, it is destroyed before it even approaches the line of contact.

“This makes it impossible to deploy armored vehicles, as they would be destroyed long before reaching the contact line,” said Oleksandr Syrsky.

According to the commander-in-chief, the war has turned into a technological confrontation, in which small strike drones play a key role. They significantly limit the possibilities of conducting large-scale mechanized operations.

“Therefore, now our soldiers, like the enemy’s soldiers, are actually forced to advance on foot, as in World War I,” said Oleksandr Syrsky.

He added that the Ukrainian command is working on adapting to the new conditions of warfare. In particular, the use of active protection systems for armored vehicles, which could destroy kamikaze drones on their approach, is being considered.

Oleksandr Syrsky stressed that war remains a constant technological competition between armies, economies, and innovations. According to him, after the emergence of effective means of protection, armored vehicles may return to active use on the battlefield.

Earlier, Syrsky said that Russia has concentrated an offensive group of 721,300 troops on the territory of Ukraine . At the same time, the occupiers are increasing the use of drones and are not abandoning their plans to seize Ukrainian territories.

The day before, Syrsky reported that Ukraine continues to increase its advantage over Russia in drone warfare . Currently, in terms of the number of FPV drones used, the Ukrainian military is approximately one and a half times ahead of the occupiers, and this gap continues to widen.
